Our History
The Multicultural Women's Organization of Newfoundland and Labrador (MWONL) was established by a group of immigrant and multicultural women who recognized the need for a dedicated organization to support women and families as they built new lives in Newfoundland and Labrador. What began as a volunteer-led initiative has grown into a respected, women-led non-profit organization committed to fostering belonging, inclusion, and empowerment.
Over the years, MWONL has expanded its programs and services to address the evolving needs of newcomer, immigrant, refugee, and culturally diverse women. Through language learning, mentorship, employment supports, health and wellness initiatives, leadership development, cultural celebrations, family programming, and advocacy, the organization has helped thousands of women strengthen their social connections, develop new skills, and actively participate in their communities.
